Jean-Claude Forest created the sexy comic book character "Barbarella" for French "V-Magazine" in 1962. "Barbarella" was an immediate bestseller and soon translated into a dozen languages. In 1968, it was adapted into a major motion picture, starring Jane Fonda, with creator Forest acting as design consultant.
Producer Drew Barrymore's proposed remake of "Barbarella" is rapidly moving through development and is currently being scripted by John "Charlie's Angels" August. Barrymore will play the affectionate title character. Writer August has said that this story-line will not be a remake of the Vadim film, but rather a new take based on other Forest "Barabarella" comic books in the series.
"It's got to have some depth, " says Drew.
